How to Elope at Marineland Beach, Florida: The Complete Elopement Guide
If you're dreaming of getting married somewhere along the Florida coast but don't necessarily want your elopement to look like every other Florida beach wedding...
Marineland Beach might be exactly what you're looking for!

This is one of my favorite little stretches of coastline near Palm Coast and St. Augustine because it has something you don't find on every Florida beach: coquina rocks!
Instead of nothing but flat sand and ocean, you get these gorgeous rock formations along the shoreline that add so much texture and character to the landscape. Depending on the tide, waves can crash against the rocks, little pockets of water form between them, and the entire place can feel surprisingly adventurous for a Florida beach.
I've photographed couples here before and it's one of those locations where you can explore, get your feet wet, climb around the rocks, and actually have FUN while taking photos instead of just standing on an empty stretch of sand.
And for an elopement?
I's always SO much fun.
So if you're considering a Marineland Beach elopement, here's everything I'd want you to know before planning your day!
Why Elope at Marineland Beach?
There are a LOT of beaches in Florida.

So why Marineland?
For me, it's the rocks!
They completely change the look of the coastline and give you so much more variety than a traditional sandy beach. You can still have the romantic barefoot-on-the-beach moments, but you also get waves crashing over the coquina, rocky little areas to explore, and a backdrop that feels a little more wild and natural.
Flagler County is actually known for its coquina coastline and coquina rock exists along the beach and nearshore throughout the Marineland area.
Marineland is also tucked between Palm Coast and St. Augustine, which makes it really easy to turn your ceremony into an entire elopement experience rather than driving to the beach, exchanging vows, and immediately leaving!
You could spend part of your day exploring St. Augustine and then finish your evening barefoot by the ocean.
Which brings me to...
Turn Your Marineland Elopement Into an Experience
This is probably my favorite thing about elopements!
You don't have to just show up, get married, take pictures, and leave.
Your elopement is your WEDDING DAY!
You can actually do things together.
And Marineland gives you so many possibilities because you're right along this beautiful stretch of Northeast Florida coastline.

Your day could include:
Exploring downtown St. Augustine
Grabbing ice cream together
Having a first look somewhere completely different
Reading private letters before your ceremony
Having a picnic
Bringing a little wedding cake
Exchanging vows by the ocean
Walking along the shoreline
Exploring the coquina rocks
Getting in the water at the end of your photos
Going somewhere special for dinner afterward
You can make the day as simple or adventurous as you want.
One of my favorite ways to plan an elopement here would actually be to combine St. Augustine + Marineland Beach.
Start with a first look and exploring downtown, grab something fun to eat, and then head south to Marineland for your ceremony and evening by the ocean.
You get historic architecture AND a wild Florida coastline in the same wedding gallery.
Yes please!!
Where Should You Have Your Marineland Beach Elopement Ceremony?
If you're imagining a big designated ceremony area with an altar and rows of chairs, this probably isn't the location I'd choose.
Marineland is much better suited to something small, intimate, and simple.
Think:
You two.
Your officiant.
Maybe a handful of your closest people.
The ocean behind you.
And that's it!

The beach access at River to Sea Preserve gives you access to the Atlantic side of the preserve, while the property itself extends west across A1A all the way to the Matanzas River.
I'd scout the shoreline on your actual elopement day and choose the ceremony area based on the tide, conditions, other visitors, and where everything looks best.
That's one of the benefits of keeping your ceremony small.
We don't necessarily need to commit to this exact square of sand six months beforehand.
We can leave ourselves some flexibility!
The Coquina Rocks at Marineland Beach
Okay, we HAVE to talk about the rocks because they're probably the reason you're considering this beach in the first place!
The Marineland shoreline contains naturally occurring coquina rock, and how much of it is exposed can change over time. Flagler County's coastal studies note that some of the coquina structures in this area are periodically buried and uncovered by sand.
And photographically?
They're GORGEOUS.

You can have waves moving around you, sit together along the rocks, walk between sections of them, or simply use them as texture in the background.
But I wouldn't plan your entire ceremony around standing on a particular rock formation.
Conditions change.
The tide changes.
Sand shifts.
Waves happen.
I'd rather choose a safe, comfortable ceremony spot and then explore the rocks afterward for portraits if conditions allow!
Sunrise or Sunset for a Marineland Beach Elopement?
This one is actually really interesting because Marineland is on Florida's east coast!
So if you want the sun itself rising over the ocean...
Sunrise
Sunrise is BEAUTIFUL here.
You'll have that early-morning glow coming from the Atlantic side and there's something about exchanging vows while the rest of the world is barely awake that feels ridiculously romantic.
Sunrise can also be a great choice if privacy is one of your biggest priorities.
And River to Sea Preserve is currently open from dawn until 11 p.m., so early access is possible.
The downside?
You're going to be getting ready VERY early.
Depending on the time of year, hair and makeup may be happening while most people are still asleep.
But if you're willing to do it?
It's worth it!!
Sunset
Sunset gives you a completely different feel.
Because the sun sets behind you toward the west rather than directly over the Atlantic, you aren't going to get a classic “sun dropping into the ocean” moment here.
But that doesn't mean evening isn't gorgeous!!
You can still get beautiful soft light, pastel skies, and that dreamy blue-hour look after sunset.
Personally, I'd choose based on the experience you want.
If you want dramatic early light over the Atlantic and potentially more privacy, go sunrise.
If you want a relaxed day where you don't have to wake up at 4 AM and can spend the afternoon exploring before your ceremony, go sunset.
Both can be so beautiful!!
What Time of Year Is Best?
One of the perks of eloping in Florida is that you have options pretty much year-round.
But every season feels a little different.

Fall
Fall is one of my favorite times for a Florida beach elopement.
Temperatures start becoming more comfortable, especially later in the season, while you still get that coastal Florida feel.
Winter
Florida winter can be AMAZING for an elopement.
Cooler temperatures make it much more comfortable to explore, especially if you're wearing wedding clothes.
Just remember that Florida cold fronts are very real. One day can be gorgeous and mild, and the next can be windy and chilly!
Spring
Spring is another beautiful option before Florida's summer heat really kicks in.
You can get warm weather without necessarily dealing with peak summer temperatures.
Summer
Can you elope here during summer?
Absolutely!
Would I recommend standing on a Florida beach at 2 PM in July wearing wedding clothes?
Absolutely not 😆
I'd plan for sunrise or later in the evening and leave room for Florida's famous afternoon thunderstorms!
What If It Rains?

If you're eloping outdoors in Florida, there's always a chance we'll have to deal with a little rain.
Especially during summer.
But rain does not automatically mean your elopement is ruined.
I photograph in the rain and I bring a clear umbrella for my couples!
A little drizzle, moody clouds, and waves crashing against the rocks can honestly make the entire coastline feel incredibly romantic.
If we're dealing with lightning, severe weather, dangerous surf, or anything that makes being on the beach unsafe, that's obviously different.
Safety comes first!
We'll watch the weather leading up to your day and adjust the timeline if needed.
How Many Guests Can You Bring?
Marineland is one of those places where I think less is more.
If you're inviting a large group of people and want chairs, an arch, decorations, and a traditional ceremony setup, I'd look into a more formal venue.
But if you're imagining:
Just the two of you
or
You + a few of your favorite humans and/or pets
...then YES.
That's where this location really shines.
A small group also makes it much easier for us to adjust where the ceremony happens based on the beach conditions that day.
For any organized ceremony or setup, I'd confirm current rules directly with Flagler County Parks & Recreation before making plans rather than assuming ordinary beach access covers a wedding ceremony!
Could We Have a Picnic Afterward?

YES, and I think this would be adorable.
Instead of immediately leaving after your ceremony, you could slow everything down.
Have some food.
Cut a little cake.
Read letters.
Hang out with your family.
Or just sit together for a few minutes and process the fact that...
YOU JUST GOT MARRIED!!
Sample 3-Hour Marineland Beach Elopement Timeline
Let's say you're planning an evening elopement with sunset around 7:30 PM.
Here's an example:
4:30 PM – First Look
Meet somewhere nearby for your first look and give yourselves a few minutes to actually take everything in.
No rushing straight into the ceremony.
5:15 PM – Arrive at Marineland Beach + Explore + Portraits
We'll wander around together, take some photos, and let those initial nerves disappear.
5:45 PM – Private Ceremony
Head down toward the coastline and exchange your vows with the ocean behind you.
6:00 PM – YOU'RE MARRIED!!
Hug your people.
Pop something celebratory if permitted.
Cut your cake.
Have a first dance.
Do whatever feels like you!
6:30 PM – Explore the Coquina Rocks
Once the ceremony is over, we'll kick off the shoes and explore.
Walk along the water.
Climb around.
Run around.
Maybe get a little messy!
6:45 PM – Sunset Portraits
We'll use that soft evening light for your final portraits.
7:15 PM – Get in the Water?!
If you're down...
LET'S DO IT.
Roll up the dress.
Run into the ocean.
Splash each other.
End your elopement laughing instead of worrying about keeping everything perfectly clean.
7:30 PM – Coverage Ends
Now go eat something delicious because you just got MARRIED!!
Want More Than a 3-Hour Elopement?
You absolutely can!!
And this is where I think combining St. Augustine + Marineland gets SO good.

Imagine this:
1:30 PM – Getting ready
2:45 PM – First look near Flagler College
3:00 PM – Explore downtown St. Augustine
3:45 PM – Grab ice cream together
4:15 PM – Head toward Marineland
5:30 PM – Picnic or time together
6:00 PM – Beach ceremony
6:30 PM – Cake + celebration
7:00 PM – Sunset portraits along the rocks
7:30 PM – Run into the ocean!
Now THAT feels like an elopement day.
Not three straight hours of posing for pictures.
Not a rushed 15-minute ceremony.
You're actually spending your wedding day doing things together and making memories.
And I'm just there documenting it all!
What Should You Wear for a Marineland Beach Elopement?
My biggest recommendation?
Wear something you can MOVE in.
Especially if you want photos around the rocks or in the water.
For dresses, flowy fabrics photograph beautifully when there's movement from the ocean breeze.
For shoes, I'd definitely bring something comfortable and easy to walk in, even if you change into nicer shoes for the photos.
And if your dream photos involve getting into the water at the end?
Plan accordingly!
Bring towels.
Bring a change of clothes.
And accept that your wedding attire probably isn't going home perfectly clean!
Personally?
I think that's part of the fun!!
Is Marineland Beach Right for Your Elopement?
I think you'll LOVE a Marineland Beach elopement if you...

Want something small and intimate
Love the ocean
Want a Florida beach that feels a little different
LOVE the look of coquina rocks
Don't need a traditional ceremony setup
Want to explore and have fun during your photos
Are okay getting a little sandy
Might even be convinced to jump in the ocean afterward
Want to combine your beach ceremony with a St. Augustine adventure
If you're picturing 75 guests, rows of chairs, elaborate florals, and a perfectly controlled environment...
I'd probably point you toward a venue.
But if you're imagining exchanging vows beside the ocean and spending the rest of the evening adventuring together?
YES. This might be your place!
Ready to Plan Your Marineland Beach Elopement?
If you're sitting here thinking...
Okay. The rocks. The ocean. The tiny ceremony. I'm sold.
I'd absolutely love to help you plan it!!
Your elopement doesn't have to be complicated to feel incredibly special.

We'll figure out the best time based on the light and tides, choose a ceremony area that works with the conditions that day, build a timeline that doesn't feel rushed, and leave plenty of room for you to actually enjoy being married.
And if you want to start your day exploring St. Augustine, grab ice cream together, exchange vows by the ocean, cut a tiny cake, and end the night running into the water?
I'm SO down.
Because your elopement should feel less like a photoshoot you're trying to get through...
and more like one ridiculously good day you never want to forget!!
