Sample 8-Hour Wedding Day Timeline: What to Expect from Start to Finish

One of the biggest questions couples ask when planning their wedding is, “How much time do we actually need for photos?”

For most wedding days, 8 hours of coverage hits the sweet spot. It gives us plenty of time to capture your story from the little morning details to the big exit, without feeling rushed or overwhelmed!

Here’s an example of what a relaxed and beautifully paced 8-hour wedding day might look like:

12:30 PM — Hair & Makeup Begins

The day starts slow and sweet. Your hair and makeup artists arrive and the anticipation starts to build!

2:00 PM — Photographer Arrives for Details & Getting Ready Photos

This is when I start capturing all the little things that tell your story — your dress, shoes, rings, invitation, perfume, and other personal touches. Then we’ll move into candid photos of you and your bridal party getting ready, laughing, and soaking up the excitement.

3:30 PM — Bride & Bridesmaid Photos

Once you’re dressed, we’ll take portraits with your bridesmaids — some classic, some fun, and a few that show off everyone’s personalities!

3:50 PM — Groom & Groomsmen Photos

Now it’s the guys’ turn. I’ll spend a few minutes photographing the groom with his crew — adjusting ties, toasting with drinks, and sharing a few laughs before the ceremony.

4:10 PM — Time to Freshen Up

A quick breather! This gives everyone a chance to relax, grab a sip of water, and touch up before guests begin arriving.

4:30 PM — Ceremony Begins

The moment you’ve been waiting for! Whether you’re getting married in a historic St. Augustine courtyard or on the beach at sunset, I’ll capture every glance, happy tear, and hand squeeze as you say “I do.”

5:00 PM — Ceremony Ends & Cocktail Hour Begins

You did it! Guests head to cocktail hour while we transition into family photos.

5:05 PM — Formal Family Photos

We’ll photograph immediate family first (parents, siblings, grandparents), then any extended family combinations you’ve requested. Having a list prepared ahead of time makes this process smooth and efficient!

5:25 PM — Wedding Party Photos

Time to bring in the full wedding party for group portraits — fun, joyful, and full of energy!

5:40 PM — Couple Portraits

Now it’s your turn to soak it all in! The nerves are gone, and the light is golden. It's perfect for romantic, timeless portraits of just the two of you!

6:00 PM — Grand Entrances

You’ll make your big entrance as a married couple! Cue the cheers, smiles, and applause as you step into your reception space.

6:10 PM — First Dance

Your first dance together as newlyweds — one of the sweetest, most emotional parts of the evening.

6:15 PM — Parent Dances

The perfect follow-up: beautiful moments with your parents that always tug at the heartstrings.

6:30 PM — Dinner

Time to relax, enjoy your meal, and take in the celebration.

7:00 PM — Speeches

Heartfelt toasts, laughter, and maybe a few happy tears — these moments always make for some of the most emotional images of the night!

7:45 PM — Cake Cutting

A classic moment that everyone loves! Whether you go traditional or playful, I’ll capture every reaction (and maybe a little frosting fun).

8:00 PM — Dance Floor Opens to Guests

Now it’s time to party! I’ll be right there in the action, capturing all the laughter, twirls, and wild dance moves as your guests celebrate the night away.

9:45 PM — Last Dance

End the night with a private last dance just the two of you. A quiet, romantic moment to soak in your day before the send-off!

Or, if you love being surrounded by your people, invite everyone onto the dance floor for one final celebration before your grand exit!

10:00 PM — Sparkler Exit

The perfect ending to your day — surrounded by your favorite people, with a glowing send-off into your new chapter together.
